For comparison, the typical ordinary member earns €71,500 and the typical chair €166,500. Huhtamäki is a clear example. Its vice chair earns €84,000, 22% more than an ordinary member and 47% of the €180,000 chair fee.
The vice chair fee follows the member fee far more closely than the chair fee. At 28 of the 29 boards, the vice chair earns between 1.14 and 1.5 times what a member earns. As a share of the chair fee, it ranges from under half to 86%.
Five boards pay their vice chair exactly €100,000
One figure stands out. Hiab, Kalmar, Konecranes, Outokumpu and Sanoma all pay their vice chair exactly €100,000. Sanoma joined the group this year, lifting its vice chair fee from €84,000.
KONE and Nokia pay their vice chair only slightly more than a member
At KONE, the vice chair earns €125,000 and an ordinary member €110,000. At Nokia, it is €210,000 against €185,000. At both boards the vice chair earns 14% more than a member, the smallest premium in the segment.
Metsä Board, Mandatum and Fiskars pay their top two roles almost alike
At the other end, Metsä Board and Mandatum pay their vice chair 86% of the chair fee, and Fiskars 75%. At these boards the two top roles are paid almost alike. Three other large caps, SSAB, Telia and Vaisala, set no separate vice chair fee at all.
Vice chair pay moved this year too
Seventeen boards raised the vice chair fee this year and 12 kept it unchanged. The typical vice chair fee rose from €88,300 to €95,000. For nomination boards preparing 2027 proposals, the market offers a clear reference: a vice chair paid about a quarter more than an ordinary member.
This is the last part of our series on board fees at Helsinki large caps. Part 1 looked at the highest-paying boards, part 2 at this year's raises, part 3 at what keeping a fee unchanged cost, and part 4 at the two-to-one rule between chair and member pay.
For nomination boards, the question before next spring’s AGMs is where their company should sit among its peers. This year’s resolutions give a clear picture of the field they will be measured against.
This five-part series looks at board fees at 32 Nasdaq Helsinki large caps, as set at the 2025 and 2026 annual general meetings. IQM Quantum Computers and Sensofusion, recently listed, are not included. The figures are base annual fees for the chair, vice chair and member, taken from each company’s AGM resolution release and reviewed by our data team. Committee and meeting fees are excluded. SSAB and Telia fees are converted from kronor at the European Central Bank rate on each meeting date. Every company figure links to its source.
