Marko Saarelainen, current CEO of Honkarakenne Oyj, will assume the role of chief executive of Honka Japan Inc. following the end of his tenure, relocating to Japan to lead the subsidiary.
Saarelainen will continue in his current position until a successor is appointed, after which he will transition to the new role as part of the company’s strategy to drive growth in the Japanese market, the home builder announced today.
Honkarakenne Oyj, a Finland-based manufacturer of log homes and wooden building solutions, established Honka Japan Inc. in 1991. Saarelainen previously led the Japanese subsidiary as CEO from 1996 to 2015, bringing extensive regional experience back to the role as the company seeks expansion in Japan.
Saarelainen has served as CEO of Honkarakenne since 2015. He holds several board and leadership positions, including vice chairman of the Ice Sports Team Hawks since 2021 and chairman of the Finnish Log House Industry since 2018. He has also been involved with the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in Japan in multiple leadership roles.
Separately, Saarelainen has informed the shareholders’ nomination committee that he is not available for election to the board of directors or as chairman, prompting the committee to resume its search process.
