I was sure I did the right decision in the end. Offered package was also genuine for the people I had to layoff. I was sleeping well my nights due to the 2 reasons.

I focused to keep the days short and I spent a lot of time with the family and kept my focus only either in the change negotiations or in the family. I canceled team meetings and everything else for some weeks. I took long walks and organised nice festive things as it was closed to the holiday season.

I don't know any leader who would do it light heartedly. Alternatives have been considered, usually almost everything else has been tried. If you need to do this to save the future and the jobs of the others, then this is what needs to be done.

Self reflection and really aiming for human touch amidst it all. Also giving myself good feedback when I managed to stay calm in the moments of unthinkably cruel comments and acts from people within the organization. Having a trusted coach to vent with. Trying to find time to do things that bring joy.

Give time, listen, symphatize. explain

Did not sleep at nights… tried to reason based on facts but did not help.

Be as kind as possible in the situation (melatonine)

Try to be as transparent as I was permitted to be. Try to help people find other jobs.

During the co-operation negotiations reasoning behind was layoff were stated, and we went it through several times 1-2-1 with my boss and in leadership team. This gave me confidence that there are reasons that I can explain to people in understandable and empathetic way.

Talk with my love ones. Get love and respect from them. Walk in the nature.
