Aktia Bank names Anssi Huhta as new CEO to drive strategic continuity

Oct 23, 2025

Aktia Bank has appointed Anssi Huhta as its new CEO, effective immediately, the Finnish lender announced recently. Huhta has served as interim CEO since June 2025 and has been part of Aktia’s Executive Committee since 2020. His previous roles include EVP of corporate customers and EVP of banking business, as well as deputy CEO between 2023 and 2025.

This year, Aktia Bank has undergone notable leadership transitions. Based on Listeds’ data, Aktia recorded three management and three board additions during 2025, reflecting a broader period of organizational realignment and strategic renewal.

The moves include key roles. At an extraordinary general meeting on October 2, Finnish banking executive Juha Hammarén was appointed to the board, marking a key governance update. Earlier in the year, Carl Haglund, previously announced as incoming CEO, was removed before taking office after the board determined he no longer met the prerequisites for the role. Meanwhile, Sakari Järvelä joined as chief financial officer and Executive Committee member on January 13, 2025, bringing over 20 years of financial leadership experience from Citycon, SEB, and Nordea.

Aktia Bank’s financial performance has shown resilience despite a weaker rate environment. Comparable operating profit for Q2 2025 was €26.2 million, down 15 % year-on-year, mainly due to an 11 % decline in net interest income, while assets under management grew to €15.9 billion thanks to positive net inflows.

Regarding Huhta’s new appointment, the board highlighted his deep knowledge of Aktia and extensive banking experience as key assets in executing the company’s updated strategy. The focus remains on active wealth management, growth within core segments, and delivering an excellent customer experience. Huhta’s appointment ensures leadership continuity and a long-term growth culture.

"Following the many changes faced at Aktia, it is important that the company and its employees are able to focus on what is essential. Under the leadership of Anssi and with the full support of the Board of Directors, Aktia will continue to create value for its customers and shareholders together with other members of the operational management and skilled employees," says Juha Hammarén, chairman of Aktia.

“I believe in the employees, in Aktia, and in the strong position we have achieved over the years among our target groups. Now is the time to focus on long-term value creation, where we earn our customers' trust and fulfil their expectations consistently. I want to promote an open and forward-looking culture, and I am proud and grateful to the colleagues with whom I can cooperate daily," says Anssi Huhta.
